We will not be having any type of delay tomorrow or day off as some are calling for due to the Super Bowl. However if parents want to write a note for their child to come late tomorrow then they are able to do so as always. Each student is permitted to miss up the 30 hours excused per year through parent notes and those are unrestricted and can be taken for any reason without explanation. Note just needs to stare family business and it will be excused. Every kid is allowed 30 hours per year per hour attendance policy with parent notes. Any student who has a good attendance and has hours left and their parent wishes to do so they can simply write a note stating family business and it will be excused like it would be for any other activities that students voluntarily engage in including shopping, hunting, vacation, oversleeping, etc.

Bus 10 Marvin will run his regular route tomorrow
If you want to meet bus 10 here is the schedule. 6:33 for woods. 7:00 for Gleason
Marvin will run the same as today except he will be running Eugene Road.
Brandis bus five will be driving her regular route tomorrow.
All of the buses will be doing the same thing tomorrow that they did today. The only one I have not heard from is Brandis. When I hear from her I will message her bus directly.
Rotary and Recovery Council Scholarship applications adding to Senior Information.
Bus 15 will not be running on Muddy Road this morning. Everything else will be normal time.
I was just notified that Jimmy Cox won’t be running his part of Leeth Creek.
As always if the bus does not run your road students will not be counted absent. It will be excused. I apologize for so many messages. I didn’t know any better way to do it.
Bus 19 will run everything normal except she needs students to meet her at the end of the blacktop. She can’t turn around at the end of the road
Bus five will not run Beekman Ridge. Meet her at the end at 7:10 if you want to ride the bus.
I apologize for the late notification. I’ve been at the boys basketball game and didn’t have everyone’s information to put a message out about the route. Most routes will be ran at normal time. I’m going to send out messages to individual buses about route restrictions. If you don’t get a call or text from me then your boss will be running on time. I can only go on with the drivers let me know today. I will relay that information to individual bus routes
Updated COVID Guidelines
Western Local Schools
February 8th, 2022
These guidelines have been developing in accordance with guidance from the Ohio Department of Health and the Pike County General Health District. Western Local Schools will follow the following guidelines in response to COVID-19 infections and exposures. These revised guidelines apply ONLY to students and staff members.
Schools will no longer be responsible for conducting any contact tracing in the school setting, unless specifically requested by the health district in response to a cluster or outbreak. Because of this change, students will not be required to quarantine due to COVID-19 exposures -- regardless of where the exposure occurred.
• Any student or staff member that tests positive for COVID-19 should stay home for 5 days. They can return to normal activities on the 6th day after their symptoms began as long as their symptoms are resolving, they do not have a fever, and they should also wear a mask for 5 additional days.
• Students and student families can voluntarily self-identify as close contacts to COVID-19 cases and choose to follow existing quarantine guidelines. Students may also choose to return to school after exposure by following the Mask to Stay protocols (wearing a mask for 10 days after exposure to the positive individual.)
• Staff will not be required to quarantine due to COVID-19 exposures. However, staff members who are contacts to a positive COVID person need to follow the current masking guidance like students – which is wear a mask for 10 days from exposure.
Since the health district will no longer be contact tracing, it will be up to the parent/guardian to send their child to school with a mask if there was household exposure. Nurses will not have a list of these contacts like they currently do to see if they should be wearing a mask without contact tracing. School nurses will no longer have a list of household exposures, only positive students. If there is a COVID positive adult (or anyone who doesn’t currently attend Western Local Schools) in your house it is the parent’s responsibility to notify the school so we can ensure that the Mask to Stay protocol is being followed.
After driving about 50 miles just now I came to the conclusion that there are too many spotty roads and too many side roads that we will not be able to run. We will be open tomorrow on a two hour delay but we will not be busing kids so obviously every one who does not come is excused. We encourage you to bring your kids if you possibly can but we completely understand that it is not possible for many of you to do so. Teachers will report on a two hour delay so any student who wants to come we will be there at 9:45. We will be having school Wednesday even if we have to offer limited busing.
