Our school district is working very hard to better understand health risk and protective behaviors. As part of this effort, we are having students in grades 7-11 participate in an anonymous survey called the Ohio Healthy Youths Environments Survey-OHYES! on 3/23/22. OHYES! Is a tool designed by the Ohio Department of Education, Health, and Mental Health and Addiction Services and numerous programs advocating for youth. Our school has decided to use this survey to understand more about students. The survey takes about 15-20 minutes. This survey is confidential and the survey is anonymous.
The Pike County Health Department will use the county-wide data as part of our Community Health Assessment and then to assist us with our Community Health Improvement Plan.
If you do not want your child to participate your child can opt out on the link to the survey.

The JB and Garnett A. Wilson Scholarship applications are due to Mrs. Schuler by Friday, March 25. Applications may be picked up in her room.
And the Pike Water Scholarship application has been added to Senior Information.

Mary T. Patterson scholarship application available on Scholar's App.com.

The pep buses will be returning out of approximately 1015.

Zach Farmer Memorial Scholarship application added to Senior Information tab.

We will be dismissing at 2pm tomorrow in order for our staff members and students to be able to make it to the boys regional final game tomorrow night in Athens at the Convocation Center. Our boys will be playing for a spot in the final four, a feat that only two other teams in Western's 88 year history have accomplished and the first in 54 years. We are having a community pep rally and dinner tonight at 6 to show our support for our players, coaches, and cheerleaders.

Tonight at 6:00pm we will be having a community dinner and pep rally to pump up our basketball team and cheerleaders as they are playing in the Regional Finals tomorrow night!
The dinner will include: Hamburgers, hotdogs, homemade mac & cheese, chips. dessert, and drinks! It is all by donation only, no set prices! All money will go to purchasing tickets for students and feeding the students who are attending the game! Please tell your family, friends, and community!
During the dinner (6-6:45) the players and cheerleaders will be set up on the stage to autograph pictures for any kids or anyone who may want one.
Jet's Popcorn will also be here to sell popcorn! They are going to donate 20% of their sales tonight to our students!
After the dinner we will move to the Gym for a Pep Rally! We would like to start it by 6:50-6:55 and last until 7:45ish! Bring your spirit and get ready for a great time! The players and cheerleaders have A LOT of goodies to throw into the stands tonight for those of you who are showing your spirit and getting loud!! LETS PACK THE STANDS!!
After the pep rally, at 8:00 pm, we will be live streaming the Waverly Regional game for ANOYONE who would like to stay and watch it!

ATTENTION 5th/6th graders.
We want you to join the pep section on Friday when our boys play for a regional championship. The school will be paying for your ticket to the game BUT you have to be accompanied by an adult. We will not be providing transportation.
If you would like a ticket for your child, you need to write a note and take to the elementary office by Friday morning. You can also call the school at 740-493-2881. Tickets will be sent home on Friday.
Adults you can purchase tickets at https://www.ohsaa.org/tickets

I made this announcement to the kids and I thought I posted it somewhere but I want to make sure all parents know any student who went to the game last night is excused for a two hour delay. Buses are running on time but any student who was at the game and wants to come in two hours late has an excused absence for two hours this morning.

The pep bus will return at approximately 1130.

The boys basketball team will be leaving the school today at 4 o’clock in a charter bus for the regional semifinal game at the convocation center at Ohio University. Anyone who wants to wish the team good luck can come to the school as they pull out or lineup along 124 to show your support. A win tonight put us in the elite 8!!

Just a reminder to parents of students riding the pep bus to the game tonight that the bus will be returning home after 11 PM. We are going to remind students to contact parents on the way home. It’s very important that everyone is waiting here when the bus pulls in so the chaperones don’t have to wait for the rides to come. My gut feeling is that the bus return will be closer to 11:30.

We have made the announcement to the students a couple of times but I wanted to make sure parents are aware that we are using donated money to buy all junior and high school student tickets for the game tomorrow night. Even if a JH/HS student is not riding the pep bus we are still paying for their tickets if they want us to. We have had several generous donations from people who want all of the JH/HS kids who want to go to the game to be able to go.

Orient Lodge, Pike Educational Assistance Fund, Sonya Swain Memorial, & Marian Thomas Memorial Scholarships added to Senior tab on website.

Bus one had to take a student back home this morning. He will be running six or seven minutes later than normal.

We will be dismissing school at 2 PM on Friday. We are one bus driver short and we have two buses that have to leave for the district championship game before buses could return for a second trip. We are taking a pep bus to the game and we have had some generous donations that will enable us to purchase tickets for students who want to go to the game but are having trouble with the ticket price.
