There’s no need prolonging the inevitable and causing you guys to have to wonder what’s going on. All of the roads are bad from bottom to top and it is snowing pretty hard on the west end of the district so I’m going to go ahead and canceled for today.

We will be starting out on a two hour delay this morning. There is a good likelihood that we will have to close, but we will start with a two hour delay and go from there. We have snow on top of ice and it’s continuing to snow a little now so I will reassess everything by around 730.

I just got back from checking Lapperell and Drybone. They were both in worse shape than they were this morning. Lapperel was probably about a slick as I’ve ever seen it so we are going to have to cancel. If you live on the main road or on the bottom of these county roads, you’ll see that they are in good shape. I’ll be the first to say that Lapperell and dry bone and Grassy are all good at the bottom, but they are not on the hills and unfortunately almost all of our buses have to travel at least one of these hills during the course of the route, and it’s not possible to just skip them. Therefore, we will be closing today.

We are going to be on a two hour delay this morning. If you haven’t been out on a hill, it’s impossible to understand how slick the roads really are. There’s a layer of ice under the snow. One of my windshield wipers are still stuck to the windshield as we speak.

This is one of the tougher calls I’ve had to make regarding weather. The forecast has snow starting around 4 AM for us. Different forecasts have different temperatures and the temperature is what’s going to determine whether it’s rain or snow. I’m going to go ahead and call a two hour delay in order to give you guys time to make arrangements for tomorrow morning, rather than possibly calling it at 5:30 or six in the morning. Tomorrow morning at 9 o’clock I may look like a dummy who just wasted two hours and inconvenienced you but I’d rather do that than to try to squeeze it in and have bad roads for our buses and our kids to drive on so we will be operating on a two hour delay tomorrow.

I am revising the posting for our school nurse position. Everything remains the same except the application deadline with be April 1st with the expected start date of August 1st, 2023. I apologize for the change but starting on April 1st would likely severely limit applicants since there would not be summer pay due to a limited number of days worked during the 2022-23 school year (stretch pay wouldn't apply). We will train whoever we hire between August 1st and the start of school. I put a screenshot of the requirements from the ODE website.

Mr. Brewster has been out checking the roads and we will be on a two-hour delay today, January 23. He has been trying to make the call but had no service to get it through.

I apologize for the late notice. We will be on two hour delay. I’ve been trying to send a call for last 20 minutes, but haven’t had phone service so Miss Thompson should be making it. Roads were in good condition 30 minutes ago, but have ve deteriorated so we will try to our delay this morning to see if we can at least have some daylight.

We wanted to let families know that Bus 9, Donna Knisley's bus, will have a split route this afternoon. Students who typically ride this bus(#9) will be split onto 3 different buses. This may affect the time of your child(ren) being dropped off. Thank you.

We have an anticipated school nurse opening at Western. Applications will be accepted starting immediately. The expected start date will be April 1st. Here is a link to the ODE website with information about the licensure/registry. Details and my contact information is on the attachment.

The buses are leaving now to pick up a student to ride bus 19. First pick ups should be in approximately 15 minutes.

This message is for students who ride bus 19. Ayesha woke up sick this morning and we are unable to get a sub. We will have to double route so we will send out the first buses that pull in the school this morning. We will send two buses to cut down time, one to do Green Ridge and the other to do red bridge/McCoy. First pick up should be around 750. I will notify you whenever the buses leave the school with a more exact time. Thank you.

I wanted to take a moment or two to wish each of you a Merry Christmas and let you know how thankful I am that you have trusted us with your greatest treasures - your children and the future of our community. I hope you all had a wonderful day. I hope your kids are enjoying the break. But more than anything I’m thankful that we have a reason to celebrate this season. Merry CHRISTmas to every Western Indian.

After watching the most recent weather forecast we’ve decide to postpone the games for Thursday and Friday. Both schools were concerned about traveling Thursday night. The switchover is predicted to be around 10, which makes it too close for comfort. Friday was an easy decision with a wind chill of -20 to -30 predicted and a temperature of 0. All day Friday is under the “no travel” designation.
