High School Volleyball Update - The South Gallia game on 9/21 has been moved to 9/27. Varsity will play first followed by JV (if SG has enough players for a JV game)

This is year 5 of our HOPE 180, After School Programs and the end of a grant cycle. It has been a prosperous journey and we have truly made new friends and discovered new worlds. In this final year, we will be making some technology additions to our Enterprise. These additions will include:
Disney Codeillusion is a self-paced coding program that leads students into the skills needs for Game Design, Digital Media Art, and Graphic-Web Design.
Sphero is an Exploration into STEM-based Coding and Robotics.
Also, we will be adding some VR and Robotics Programs in the Winter.
We will continue to serve as a Base for E-Sports and Digital Gaming.
We also offer Homework Help and Incorporate Math and Literacy into our Curriculum.
And we will always stick to our primary mission, providing a safe environment for developing healthy relationships through family-like games, activities, and conversations.

This week at Western High School we are holding a food drive for our local food pantry. It is running all week long. The administrators and athletic directors have decided to support this effort and to accept canned and non-perishable food items in place of an admission fee this week to all HOME sporting events at Western. This includes High School and Junior High Home games. When you bring 5 items or more to the game, you will get 1 person in FREE to the sporting event. This also includes any student and adult from the opposing school as well. Cans and non-perishable items can be given to the person taking the admission money at the games. We had a couple of drivers call off this morning. We're going to have to split Donna's route like we sometimes do in the evenings. Times won't change much but kids live on her route only picked up by a different bus than normal in the mornings. Again, times shouldn't be much different just a different driver this morning. Thanks.
Here's a reminder about the road construction on 124. The signs make it seem like it's all of 124 but it's just from the stone quarry to Sinking Spring. I've attached the schedule. Work will be each day from 8-3. Also, we'll be picking up Green Ridge kids in the van during the construction on that road. Van "delivery" will start this afternoon and go until construction is complete.
We've had several people ask about the road construction on 124. The work will be done during school hours and won't impact buses but could impact parents picking kids up. I'm attaching a picture of the schedule. All of the work will be from Drybone Rd. to Sinking Spring.
HS volleyball is home tomorrow night against North Adams. JV starts at 5:30. The theme is blackout the green devils. All staff, students and fans are encouraged to wear a black Western shirt to school and game.

This is for Western Seniors attending the CTC, Herff Jones will be coming to the CTC on September 14 at 8:30 to drop off graduation packets and will be returning to the CTC on September 28 during lunch to pick up orders. If you have any questions, please call/see Mrs. Schuler at the high school.

I wanted to let everyone know that we will be dismissing at 12 tomorrow. I'm sorry for the inconvenience. We are going to get the kids on the buses and out of here as quickly as possible today in order to reduce the amount of time they have to spend sitting still in the parking lot. They are forecasting an extreme heat advisory tomorrow with a projected heat index of 110 by dismissal time. 3pm-5pm is the projected hottest period of the day. We can't get up enough speed for airflow to cool the buses with those temperatures because buses are either stopping on 124 every minute or slowly driving down a backroad. The temperatures are going to be better on Friday and much better next week. Teachers will work regular hours tomorrow. I'll be sending out a call this evening with this same information for anyone without a cell phone or social media.

Seniors at the CTC- Herff Jones will be scheduling with the CTC and we will let you know when they will be coming to the CTC.
Any HS and Jr High student who is not playing another sport and wants to run cross country meet tomorrow after school at the track. If you want to run, but our unable to be there tomorrow, please be sure to contact Mr. Mcclay at school.

The CREW CAT from the Columbus Crew will be live at Western's Back to School Event at the STAY IN THE GAME table, reminding the community about the importance of maintaining good school attendance. The Event is Tuesday, August 15th, from 5:00-6:00 PM.
We have dozens of functional computers for sale for $50 each to anyone in the district who may be interested. These just came out of teacher classrooms this summer so they all work. If you would happen to buy one and it doesn't work, we will swap it out for one that does. They will be available during open house tomorrow evening from 5-7. I won't be able to answer individual questions about models or anything like that. If you're interested, you will be able to look at them and pick them up tomorrow evening during open house.
