After spending all evening driving around and trying to see which roads were safe and which ones weren’t I was on the fence until I came down Lapperell. The snow we had this afternoon was enough to put a slick glaze on Lapperell and Fairview. That little bit of snow added to the slush that has refrozen makes it I no go for a busload of kids. We never had a chance to run dry bone anyway. Bell hollow is pretty good for the most part. Lots of roads in the district aren’t bad but the bus turnarounds that our buses have to use on the county roads are not good. We could not run many township roads. Your road may be perfectly fine to drive a bus on but some of the main roads we have to use to get a large percentage of our kids to school are not safe for buses to travel on right now.

I’ve checked almost every road in the district. A lot of the roads aren’t bad. Several are not safe to run a bus on. We could’ve skipped the the township roads if the county roads would have been clear but three of the main roads we use aren’t safe enough for a bus. Additionally, our parking lot is still a skating rink after two full days of salting and scraping. Wayne worked on it for almost 10 hours today and wasn’t able to get the bus unloading area clear.

Good afternoon! This is a reminder that all Western Juniors need to report to the high school Tuesday February 23, 2021 at 7:45 am for the state required ACT test. This includes of our juniors attending the high school, the CTC, and participating in blended learning. A reminder email about the ACT date was sent to each Junior. They also received an email with test prep resources, a practice test, and what to expect the day of testing. Please make sure your son or daughter checks their email. Thank you! -D. Long

I know this is a shocker but we are going to have to cancel tomorrow. Still under winter storm warning. Enjoy a snow day.

Due to level 2 Snow emergency level that we are currently under I am not able to have staff members come in for the parent teacher conference. We will have an evening conference as soon as we can get one scheduled. It has not been canceled it has just been postponed. We plan to have it as soon as we possibly can fit it in an evening. Students are still off tomorrow and Monday is a holiday. These are not blended learning days. Enjoy the long weekend.

The varsity girls game for tonight is canceled due to poor road conditions.

County trucks are loaded and headed out. Roads should be treated by the time we leave.

Due to the forecast of ice starting at 3o’clock today we are going to dismiss kids at one. All students will have lunch and will be on buses ready to hit the road at 1o’clock. I realize this is an inconvenience but based on every forecast I have looked at we should not be getting any ice until at least 3 PM. I do not want to send kids on icy roads. County roads have lots of grit on them so some snow should not be a problem but avoiding the ice is always a priority.

For those of you who have not been out this morning the roads are terrible and it is still snowing. Today will be traditional snow day for our students.

From Mr. Brewster: I apologize for the extra late call but we are going to have to cancel. Two hours ago when I checked the first time these roads were fine but as the temperature has dropped it has gotten much worse. I am on Fairview right now and it is nothing but ice from one end to the other. The easy thing to do would’ve been to have school but I don’t want to get anyone in a wreck. I don’t think a bus could make this turn on Fairview and I’m sure of the roads are just the same. Now Leeth creek is ice on the main part of the road and everything that has any driveway water running onto it is completely ice covered.

Buses will not run Hackelshin Upper Leeth Creek, Walls, Giers Gleason, Rob Beekman Davis Owens McKinney

Sorry for the extra text but I wanted to clarify that Tonya Bus 8 will be running Leeth Creek like normal. Brandis Bus 5 will not run the upper end of Leeth Creek or Walls Road
